Fingering A Slice Of Cake When OCD Told Me Not To

OCD is a fickle bastard and it’s severity ebbs and flows like the tide. Sometimes it’s worse, sometimes it beats me and sometimes, I win.

Today is one of those moments where I win.

OCD told me that I couldn’t eat this delicious slice of chocolate cake with my fingers and there was no way I would be able to use a fork from the office. On top of this, I’d just used my hand to open the door of the toilets (lol, seems so normal, right?!) so my OCD was shouting a little louder than usual.

However, feeling the fear and doing it anyway, I lifted the heavenly, dark brown, spongy goodness to my mouth and took an almighty bite. And do you know the only thing that happened? My tastebuds reacted to the sweet, chocolatey goodness and made me feel happy inside. The fear dissipated almost instantaneously.

OCD and in turn mental illness can be very hard to fight. You might be tired, you might be having a bad day or you might just be exhausted from battling every single thought.

But.

You can recover, you can achieve, you can succeed, you can win, you can have hope, you can do the impossible.

You can be more than your mental illness.

Fight those little wars, the daily struggles, take the baby steps and run with them. OCD doesn’t have to control your entire life, you can fight back!
