OCD Week of Action – 20th – 26th of Feb – 2017

Every year, OCD Action sets aside a week to intensively tackle the stigma that surrounds OCD, focusing on taking action in any way possible. This includes, but is not limited to; fundraising individually or as a group by completing a physical activity or hosting an event or, on a smaller but no less important scale, having a difficult conversation with a family member or friend about OCD and breaking the ice. OCD Action doesn’t just work for everyone impacted by OCD in this week alone, but it is a great opportunity for the attention to be on this mental illness and get people working together.

Up and down the country people will be taking part, whether that’s in person (well done to Molly, one of our YAP members who raised nearly £100 at a bake sale), in online conversations or in a much more personal way. Making that difficult phone call to the GP to seek help or talking to someone you love about how OCD is affecting you is still worthwhile and important. Any action you take, no matter how big or small, adds to the collective effort and goes a long way to changing the lives of people who live with OCD.

If you want to know more about what you can do, you can click this link to find out how to receive an action pack for free with plenty of things to help you take action this week. It will also provide you with details on Twitter chats that will take place throughout the week as well as ways in which you can help set up and organise your own events via our Lead Fundraising Officer.

OCD is debilitating, frustrating, it can fill you with despair and it can trick you into believing false truths. However, you have the power to resist OCD, you can rebel, you can learn to manage it and live a life free from the confines of this secret illness. Take action this week in any way you’re comfortable, we’ll be with you every step of the way, and as the Chair of the YAP, I know from personal experience that hope is real, help exists and you can fight your OCD. I can’t wait to see what we can achieve when we tackle this together!
